BORN
Brownwood, Texas, July 6, 1936

BORN AGAIN
1942

It was on a hilltop in the little rural town of Neches, Texas one Saturday night many years ago that I, as a small boy, came to know Jesus Christ. The wonder of that night is still with me.

At the age of 15, while attending a conference at Ridgecrest, North Carolina, I sensed that God was calling me to preach the gospel.

While in high school, I was licensed to preach by the First Baptist Church of Tahoka, Texas.

As a student at Baylor University, I was called to be pastor of Navarro Mills Baptist Church, near Corsicana, Texas. I remained in that rural pastorate for five-and-a-half years, graduating from college and completing my Master of Divinity degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth...
